Since upgrading to Mac OS X Lion I’ve found the following software on my System that no longer works.
Games & apps that require Rosetta (PowerPC compatibility)
- Age of Empires 2 Gold
- Baldur’s Gate 2
- Diablo 2
- DooM Legacy
- Railroad Tycoon 3
- Starcraft
Games and apps that crash on start
- The Dig
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
- Guitar Rig 4 64bit (patch expected soon)

Have you heard anything more about a GuitarRig 4 compatibility update? On NI’s website, they have a general KB article about 64-bit compatibility issues w/ Lion, but nothing specific for GR4 that I can see. GR4 crashes 9 times out of 10 for me shortly after launching it.
No. I’ve not tried to resolve the issue on my Mac yet. I’ve heard other people not having problems with it (in 32bit mode at least).
So productivity is up then? Look at all those classics!
Nah. Just need new games now. 🙂
I thought I would be okay without AOE2 but now the cravings have begun…so I guess ‘Rome:Total War” from Feral would be most similar? ($29.) Runs on Lion? And thoughts?
I have just tried playing Baldur’s Gate 2 since I bough Lion a few months ago. Tragically I was denied. How am I supposed to read “The Legend of Drizzt” series and not be able to play Baldur’s Gate??? Baldur’s Gate has been my favorite game since my Uncle introduced me to it when I was 10. Any suggestions besides me having to buy a PC to enjoy life?
I would suggest that A) you find more meaning in your life than Baldur’s Gate, B) use a PC emulator like Parallels or VirtualBox.
🙂
is there any possibility of a patch coming out to solve this problem?
There is a patch out for Native Instruments Guitar Rig, but the other apps rely on Rosetta (PowerPC to Intel conversion) which Apple are no longer supporting or updating. So no, those old applications/games will not work on Lion or beyond. If you must play those old games you could always install Snow Leopard in a VM on your Mac.
