Sucky cheap hardware.

I do hate it when my hardware goes all fubar. It seems that either my external USB2 Hard Disk enclosure or the 200GB Hard Disk iteself is going west. *sigh* Time to build a little Linux NAS with mirrored disks I think.

  2. I’ve seen a few people stuff big disks into little USB2 disk containers, but it doesn’t seem to work out very well. Seems like some sort of slow cooking death by heat problem. Either that or your USB2 container needs to actually _be_ a heat sink, instead of just looking like one.

  3. It might be the case here. I’m not sure. I’ve just built a NAS/Media Center to replace the drive. 600GB of storage goodness. I need to connect up the dodgy 200GB drive and do some interegation with SMART tools to find out if it is the USB device or the HDD that is at fault.
